Intelligent Finance Problems

I ran into an unbelievable problem with Intelligent Finance today - enough of a problem for me to start moving my current account back to NatWest.

I needed to withdraw £800 cash from my current account by the next day, so rang them up to ask them what the daily withdrawal limit was on my cash card - £300 was the reply. I asked if this can be temporarily raised to allow me to withdraw the money over two days. 'It can't be raised above £300, it's a business decision'.

Next I enquired about getting a banker's draft - 'sorry we don't do banker's drafts, but you can arrange a CHAPS transfer', which will cost me £12. So basically, there is no way to withdraw your own money from your account without having to pay for it.

If you're considering an Intelligent Finance current account, I seriously suggest you think again. The interest rates on the account may look attractive, but you soon realise there's more to an account than that.

Ah, the Curse of Intelligent Finance strikes again.

I moved both my mortgage and current accounts from Intelligent Finance back to First Direct some time ago. IF customer service was a complete nightmare. Luckily, the fees involved in arranging a new mortgage were mostly covered by the compensation IF paid me for one of their numerous errors.

I could go on and on. You were wise to dump them.

currently in the process of moving to Intelligent Finance IF. On the basis of the recommendation by Motley Fool, and also because of the interest rate. Finally, i find the service I get fromn Citibank ok but not friendly enough (and their phone access is inadequate for me). Importantly for me, Citibank lacks candor.

At the moment i am not disatisfied enough that i will pull the pin, however the move is less than a slick affair. For instance, it turns out they opened 2 savings accounts instead of just one. Of the two however, one is NOT visible from the internet connection. Why not visible? i will never know i expect. Since they drew £500 from my Citi account then i got worried where the £500 had gone off to. Because it is a newish team then i will be patient. And since Citi does not pay any interest whatever then i expect i will be £100 up by end of year. Perhaps more i save more. £100 of course is not huge but i would hate to feed the fat cats from NY some more if i can help..
